In addition to what Jethro said, you can (if using chrome) mute the tab from your browser so no sounds will play regardless of the settings. Great way to quickly mute without going into settings

Yes. Go to Settings and at the bottom of the window you will see a tick box that says 'Sounds'. Deselect that and you good to go
