Limit orders on either side of the market

Right now, I can only place a limit order to sell above the current price, or set a limit order to buy below the current price. I can only set one type of limit order now. I want to have the choice of buy or sell in any limit order. For example, to be able to set a limit order to buy ABOVE the current price, as in entering a buy position at the upward breakout of a range.
