Default Order Size

Right now, when switching from one contract to another (e.g. MNQ → NQ or ES), the system carries over the previous default quantity. This creates a very unsafe trading environment.

On platforms like Thinkorswim or Webull, we can always change our default contract size — and those defaults don’t blindly carry over between completely different products. That makes sense, because a mistake like going from 5 MNQ to 5 ES can be extremely costly.

Topstep prides itself on promoting safety and responsible trading, but this current behavior doesn’t align with that mission. The default size should either:

  • reset to 1 whenever switching symbols, or

  • allow us to set custom defaults per contract (like other platforms).

Traders need a consistent, safe environment, especially when the focus should be on execution and discipline — not worrying about whether the system just carried over a dangerous contract size.

Improve the order method to avoid switching

It is very inconvenient to use this place in the order panel, and you have to manually switch between market and limit every time, which is inconvenient, directly a box, the default is market, and if I change it to a number, it is directly to place an order with this number limit. After the order is completed, the market will be restored directly, and this place can still be improved anyway to avoid manually switching between market and limit

    Reset order quantity to default.

There are A LOT of flexibility and customisation options missing curretly in comparison to other, more established platforms. One in particular that I always have is for order quantity to be reset to a default amount after issuing an order.

    Contract size 'reset'

Please let the contract size reset to 1 when switching charts. Happened a few times i switch from micro's or another contract and the contract size goes to 5 for some or any reason.

Got into a trade, I almost hit my DLL due to system triggering 3 contracts while I wanted 1. While this a human error, the system can help avoid or reduce such. So it would save a few accounts if we can get the option to set a default or have system set default to 1.

      Thanks

Request to Set Default #of Contracts to 1

To minimize errors while placing orders, especially when switching from /MNQ (Micro NQ) to /NQ (Mini)

Please update the TopstepX to automatically set the default number of contracts to 1.

This will help traders avoid accidentally placing larger orders than intended due to contract size differences.

Contract re-set to 1 when switching trading assets

I would like to see the contract size default to 1 when you switch between different assets. I’ve heard from a few people that they’ve hit their DLL when they switch from MNQ to NQ because they forgot to change the contract size back to 1. Most trading platforms have this by default so I believe a lot of people are losing trades because they’re used to it auto-resetting to 1 when switching.
